The History of The Strand

The history of The Strand goes back to 1901 and untill today The Strand is considered one of the finest examples of a Colonial style in Asia. The famous Sarkies Brothers converted a local boarding house on Strand Road into a three-story luxury hotel. During British times it was a landmark in Yangon and innumerable explorers, writers and celebrities spent time in 'one of the finest hotels, East of Suez'. 

From time to time The Strand was renovated and revamped. It underwent a final renovation before reopening in 2016, soon taking its place again as the Number One place to stay in Yangon.

The Strand has 32 suites, all carefully designed, with polished teak floors, high ceilings, vintage textiles and original artworks. All suites are equipped with modern technologies without forgetting the typical colonial atmosphere.
