Wa Ale Island Resort

As close as you can get to Paradise... Wa Ale Island is a remote island in the Myeik Archipelago in the Andaman Sea. This 5000 acre island is part of the Lampi Marine National Park and is highly involved in eco-tourism and nature conservation.

It can only be reached by a 2-hour speedboat transfer and offers an unrivalled glamping experience in a tropical setting. 'Barefoot luxury meets Bohemian Chic'... that's the way to describe this unique place.

Wa Ale Island Resort: the concept

The concept of Wa Ale Island was created by Chris and Farina Kingsley, out of love for Myanmar and its people. On this remote island they opened the first real eco-luxury resort in the Myeik Archipelago. Not a single tree was cut to built the resort, only recycled wood was used to construct the infrastructure, disturbance to wildlife was kept minimal. With solar energy and an independent water filtration system, the impact on the ecosystem of the Island is reduced to a minimum.

Chris and Farina also engaged in nature conservancy for the nearby Lampi Marine National Park and involved the local (fishing) communities in their project. The Resort supports the Lampi Foundation and 20% of the proceeds are invested back in the Foundation and in local community work.

Wa Ale Island Resort: the accommodation

The resort spreads out along Turtle Beach and Honeymoon Beach with 11 tented beach villa's. All tented villa's are carefully designed with panoramic ocean views, private terraces and an amazing outdoor bathroom. Each tented villa offers ultimate privacy.

There are also 3 Treetop Villa's, high up in the canopy forest which are a perfect romantic hideout.

Meals straight from the own organic garden and from the ocean, are served in the Main Pavillion that can be reached by a short walk along the beach or by a golfcart transfer through the forest. On the far end of the beach, there's the Sunset Bar, the place to be for cocktails and sundowners.

The latest additions are a 4-bedroom Beach House on a secluded beach (with private butler service) and 3 new Beach Bungalows another 500m away on Honeymoon Beach.

Wa Ale Island Resort: the activities

Apart from enjoying the white sandy beach and the lush nature, there are lot of activities on and around the Island. The ocean and the mangrove forest invite for paddleboarding and kayaking. An inhouse naturalist can take you on private walks through the jungle and to some scenic viewpoints for wildlife spotting. One of the best excursions to do is a complete tour of the island by boat, visiting some secluded beaches and a local community.

The reefs around the Island are perfect for snorkelling and the Resort also has a PADI-certified Diving Centre with instructors who will take you to some of the best diving spots in the Archipelago.

Wa Ale Island Resort offers daily yoga classes and private massage treatments are possible in your villa.

All activities are included in the package price (except scubadiving).

Wa Ale Island Resort is the perfect place to unwind after a journey in Asia, but a 1 week stay on the Island can be a real relaxing holiday on itself

Our personal opinion

In 2017 we met some of the staff members of Wa Ale during a trip in Asia. Made curious by their stories, we went to check out Wa Ale Island ourselves a couple of months later after a trip to Bhutan. From the moment we jumped from the speedboat onto the sandy beach, we felt 'Wow'.  We spent a week on the Island without any dull moment: snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, reading, chatting with the crew and the other guests, having white wine at sunset and fresh juice at sunrise... The tented beach villa's were amazing in terms of luxury and location. Truly, one of the best places we stayed in 25 years of Asia travelling.
